The Americas Rugby Championship Readies for the Semi Final Matches!

The final week of September saw the Canadian regional competition come to an end with a semi-final matchup between the BC Bears and the Ontario Blues set to play on October 10.  Games were underway throughout the month of September as four Canadian teams engaged in competition for the right to play in the inaugural Americas Cup Championship.  BC dominated competition going undefeated while the Blues went 1-2 like the Atlantic and Prairies teams.  Since the Blues earned one more bonus point than the Prairies team they earned the right to play in the semi-finals.

This will be a rematch of the opening game of the competition for both squads, one which the Bears won by a score of 29-24 back on September 12.  However, the Blues are not discouraged by the defeat, but encouraged by the second half play which nearly overtook the 14-10 lead which the Bears had going into the half.  The Blues will look to stiffen up their defense as each of the tries the Bears scored in their first contest was initiated by tremendous individual efforts.  The Blues will also look to see how The Rock from Newfoundland was able to slow down the offense of the Bears.  The Rock gave the Bears their stiffest completion of the tournament holding them to only one try and a penalty kick in a hard fought match won by the Bears 8-7.  Ontario would defeat The Rock the following week 32-5.

October 10 will also see the USA Select XV taking on the Argentina Jaguars.  The winner of that match will meet either the BC Bears of Ontario Blues October 17, 2009, at Infinity Park in Glendale, CO.

On the tenth fans will undoubtedly flock to MacDonald Park in Vancouver to watch the semi-final match between the Bears and the Blues.  While there it would not be surprising if many of the fans in attendance were to tip back a few Amnesiacs from the Phillips Brewery. Deemed the best brewery in BC by the CAMRA Awards (Campaign for Real Ale) for the last three years these guys have made brewing beer an art.  Amnesiac Double IPA is one of their many award winners.  A fairly light colored beer that is heavy on the hops, this beer packs a heck of a punch at 8.5% alcohol by volume to go along with its outstanding taste.  For a great tasting beer that will get you drunk enough to forget how bad your team played you will not go wrong with an Amnesiac.
