Someone’s 15 Minutes just got a Lot Longer

New York fans please don’t be mad at me when I say this, but I have to recognize when someone achieves greatness:

Congratulations Dallas Braden.

A-rod did not think you warranted listening to when you spoke your mind about him breaking one of baseball’s unwritten rules. Since you had not done anything yet, you did not deserve to be listened to by someone like him.

Well, Dallas, I think it is pretty clear you have done something now.

With the 109 pitches Dallas threw on Sunday, Mother’s Day, he became part of a select group of players to accomplish one of baseball’s most difficult feats, throwing a perfect game. In the history of the game there have only been 19 perfect games (including his). The first official one came way back in 1880.

Alex Rodriguez is without a doubt one of the best players in the game today, but the only distinction he has that places him in baseball’s lore is the amount of money he has gotten paid.

Such a feat could not come at a better time for the young player from Stockton. On Mother’s Day it is hard not to think about one’s mother. In Dallas’s case, that is all he can do since she passed away back in 2001 from cancer at the tender age of 39. He ended up being raised by his grandmother. Even though she was not in the stands watching her son today, his mother was undoubtedly watching.

Last Mother’s Day was not nearly as nice to Dallas. He was on the receiving end of a line drive from Vernon Wells which was clocked at 109 mph. The ball nailed him in the pitching hand; when he left the game after six innings the imprint of the stitches could still be seen on his hand.

Congratulations on a job well-done Dallas. I am sure you made your mom proud.

Beer: Asylum from the good people at the Left Coast Brewing Company in San Clemente, California— After accomplishing such a feat, Dallas Braden is bound to do some celebrating. Too many of this beer though and he may be in need of a little help crossing the mound himself. This BelgianTripel Ale comes in at a whopping 11% ABV.

For a beer so strong, it is surprisingly light and easy to drink. Sweet and just  a bit spicy, this beer has a flavor you can enjoy all night long whether your celebrating or just looking to enjoy a good beer.
